What Does a Conductor Do?                   (grades 6-7)

You have all seen conductors standing in front of an orchestra, waving their arms, but do you really know what conductor do? Tara Simoncic will highlight the role of a conductor, showing the audience how she starts and stops an orchestra, establishes different meters and tempos, and leads the musicians to respond musically, all through her physical gestures. This concert features Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”), and Brahms’s “Hungarian Dance No. 5.” Several lucky students will have the opportunity to conduct the Greenwich Symphony playing Sousa’s famous march, “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
