Mark Davies, Principal

Mark Davies has served as principal bassoonist of the GSO since 2002. Mark enjoys the life of a freelance musician and has performed with orchestras throughout the Mid-Atlantic states. In addition to his years with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra, a sampling of the orchestras Mark has performed with include the Westfield Symphony, Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic, and Princeton Symphony. He earned BM and MM degrees from the Juilliard School.
Gili Sharett has been the Second Bassoon player of the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra since 2008, in addition to being the orchestra’s Facebook Director. Gili has performed with the New York City Ballet, the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, New Jersey Symphony, American Symphony, American Ballet Theater and the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta. She made her Carnegie Hall recital debut in 2004, and has also been a featured recitalist at the United Nations and the International Double Reed Society. Dr. Sharett is a member of the Ariel Winds woodwind quintet. She has performed on many Broadway shows and on Encores! at City Center. Summer festival appearances include Verbier, Brevard Music Center and Bard Summerscape. Among Gili’s numerous recording credits are The Light in the Piazza for Nonesuch (Grammy nomination), Broadway Carols for a Cure, diverse projects with John Zorn’s label, PBS Television, Stephan Sondheim, Lauryn Hill and Nathan Lane. Sharett studied with Mordechai Rechtman, Kim Laskowski, Arlen Fast, Lenny Hindell and Dennis Godburn. Gili holds a DMA from Stony Brook University and lives with her husband, trombonist, composer, and Grammy award winner Rafi Malkiel, and her daughters, Mai and Liana.
T.D. Ellis has played contrabassoon and bassoon with the Greenwich Symphony since 1980. He is principal bassoon and personnel manager of the Greater Bridgeport, Ridgefield and Wallingford Symphonies, plays contrabassoon and bassoon with the New Haven Symphony, and may often be heard with other orchestras throughout New York and Connecticut. He has appeared as a soloist with the Ridgefield Symphony, Chappaqua Chamber Orchestra and Western CT Youth Orchestra. T.D. is a founding member of Bassoonery, a bassoon quartet. Recently he founded and is Executive Director of the CTPhilharmonic. In his spare time he owns and operates three online music businesses. The Music Source (www.TheMusicSource.org), has over 50,000 print music titles in stock, as well as unique music gifts and supplies. Trevco-Varner Music (wwwTrevcoMusic.com) is the “World’s Foremost Purveyor of Print Music for Double Reeds.” T.D. Ellis Music Publishing publishes over 300 works by Anthony Newman and others, as well as arrangements by Mr. Ellis. As a music copyist, he has typeset scores for Tony Bennett, Wynton Marsalis, Yo-Yo Ma, Pavarotti, Michael MacDonald, the Boston Pops, National Symphony, the Grammy Awards, Kennedy Center Honors, Piglet’s Big Movie, Barack Obama’s inauguration, and more.
