In Remembrance of Car Westbrook

The Greenwich Symphony is deeply saddened by the passing of longtime GSO violinist Caralliene Westbrook, who died on August 30th.

Car was one of the earliest members of the GSO. An astute musician and discerning listener, she steadfastly supported her colleagues on and off stage. She was a wellspring of organizational and administrative energy, served as the orchestra’s librarian and was the virtual aide de camp to the music director, personnel manager and orchestra's board during her 65 years with the Symphony.

Car was a 1959 graduate of Greenwich High School. After graduating from UConn in 1963 she became an elementary school teacher in the Greenwich Public Schools. Quite a few of her students grew up to play in the Greenwich Symphony.

A pillar of the Greenwich musical community, she sang and played violin with the Greenwich Choral Society and at the First Congregational Church of Greenwich, where she was an active member and longtime chorister. She also played trombone with the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department band in Binney Park. Her love of music and abiding dedication to the orchestra exemplified the spirit of the GSO.

Thank you, Car, for playing such a big role in making the GSO what it is today. We will miss you!
