Spanish-Dutch pianist Albert Cano Smit has been praised for his captivating artistry, poetic musicianship, and expressive storytelling. Winner of the 2019 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and the 2017 Naumburg Piano Competition, he has established an international career as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician.
Albert has appeared with orchestras including the Seattle Symphony, Montréal Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Barcelona Symphony, and Catalonia National Orchestra. His recital engagements have taken him to Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, and major festivals throughout North America and Europe.
A dedicated chamber musician and advocate for new music, Albert has collaborated with leading artists and ensembles and has premiered works written especially for him by composers including Stephen Hough and Katherine Balch. He is also a frequent touring partner of flutist Anthony Trionfo and violinist William Hagen.
Born in Geneva to a Dutch mother and Spanish father, Albert speaks five languages and began his musical training at the renowned Escolania de Montserrat choir school. He studied at the Colburn School and The Juilliard School, where he earned both a Master’s degree and Artist Diploma and received the Rubinstein Prize for Piano. He currently resides in New York City.
